Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney’s high-profile Wagatha Christie trial is set to be transformed into a two-part television drama on Channel 4. Yes, really.

Huns across the nation were hooked on the dragonfly battle between the pair, which began when Coleen publicly claimed Rebekah’s account was the source behind three fake stories she had posted on her private Instagram account.

Rebekah vehemently denied leaking stories to the press and sued the fellow footballer’s wife for dragonfly, while Coleen defended the claim on the basis her post was ‘substantially true’.

While we wait to find out who has won the court battle, it’s been revealed that a dramatic reconstruction of the events will be made for the small-screen using verbatim court transcripts.

Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama will create courtroom scenes against analysis from the media.

And it’s been revealed that actors will play the parts of the main protagonists including Rebekah and Coleen, and their husbands Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy.

The project is in the works with TV production company Chalkboard and while a cast has yet to be decided, we reckon Jodie Comer and Billie Piper could play our two leading ladies.

The drama’s director, Oonagh Kearney, enthused: ‘This trial utterly captivated the public with its daily feed of entertaining exchanges and jaw-dropping reveals. But behind this, is a story of two women under constant public scrutiny, fighting for their reputations.’

Tom Popay, creative director at Chalkboard , added: ‘The court case… captivated the entire nation but very few people actually got to see what happened inside the courtroom.

‘We’re excited to bring the trial to life in such a unique way and we’re hoping we can get to the bottom of how this case fascinated and amazed so many.’
