Original Sin Fans Will Love

The HBO Max spin-off Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin has slasher elements, and co-creators Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring were interested in doing that. As Aguirre-Sacasa told The New York Post“The idea of doing a horror/slasher version of ‘PLL’ where [the unknown assailant] ‘A’ was a villain like Jason from ‘Friday the 13th’ or Michael Myers from ‘Halloween’ or Freddy Krueger …feels like a way that we can honor the original show, and yet do something new and explore a new genre.”

While watching season 1 of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sinfans can check out some similar slasher films, whether they also focus on teenagers with secrets or a friend group who are running from a killer.

Tabby would definitely go see Bodies Bodies Bodies in the theater, and while she loves to look at the horror genre with a critical eye, she would likely enjoy it and would appreciate the sense of humor that the A24 film has.

When a group of friends party at a mansion, they play a game that becomes all too real, which makes them think that one of them is actually a killer. These characters are in a similar boat to Imogen and her friends, as they all wonder who they can trust and how much longer they have to investigate the mystery before they’re really in trouble.

Max with her mother

There are many unforgettable horror movie final girls and the 2015 film The Final Girls takes a look at this trope in a more creative and detailed manner. Max Cartwright is grieving her mom, Amanda, who starred in a slasher film called Camp Bloodbath. The movie is fun and offbeat, putting Max and her friends into Camp Bloodbath where they lean on each other, joke around, and attempt to survive.

Like the main characters in PLL: Original Sin, Max and her pals are caring and know that working together is the only way to stay alive. Both the spin-off series and the horror film have a good sense of humor and some light moments.

Muffy Smiling at April Fool's Day (1986)

April Fool’s Day is about friendship and revenge, which are themes of PLL: Original Sin, as Imogen, Tabby, Noa, Mouse, and Faran wonder if they can teach Karen a lesson while realizing that their lives are now heading in a scary, dangerous direction. The movie also suggests that people can never really know their good friends.
