Harrisburg’s wildly successful Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) softball franchise is back in familiar territory, chasing a World Series title.
The Michael Stepp RBI of Greater Harrisburg went 2-1 through pool play at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Fla.
And manager Taylor Weisman & Co. opened the double elimination tournament Wednesday with a 15-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Not bad, considering Harrisburg dropped its World Series opener by a 2-1 count to the Miami Marlins. Up next is Thursday’s 9 am battle with Houston, where a victory would put Harrisburg within a game of Saturday’s World Series final.
On Wednesday, Harrisburg erupted for 12 hits and ended its third straight victory in just three innings. The victors posted 11 runs in the bottom of the third.
Shortstop Rachel Seneca (Bishop McDevitt) cracked three hits and totaled five RBIs, while game-winning pitcher Ryalee Dillard (Harrisburg Sci-Tech) added a three-run home run.
Outfielders Ella Heap (Central York), Alexandra Wagner and Emmalee Mowery (Cedar Cliff) chipped in two hits apiece in the rout. First baseman Mikaela Francois (CD East) added two RBIs.
Dillard struck out six and did not allow a hit in the shortened affair.
Harrisburg, part of the RBI Softball World Series for the fourth straight year and 10th overall, opened pool play Tuesday in the Finch Division alongside Miami, Hoboken (NJ) and the Cleveland Guardians.
Houston, Puerto Rico, Cincinnati and the Dodgers Dreamteam were part of the Watley Division. Following pool play, teams were seeded based on performance for the double elimination tournament.
Harrisburg rebounded from its opening loss with a 12-1 victory over Cleveland and 14-1 win over Hoboken.
Saturday’s 9:30 am championship game will be streamed live on MLB.com.
