In an interview with Slash Film, Samaritan director, Julius Averyexplained his decision to cast Stallone in the movie: “We didn’t really have superheroes… we only had action heroes. And Sly was the closest thing we had to a superhero. So to put him in a superhero movie? That feels fresh and cool and something that people will get a kick out or.”

The list of actors for Samaritan movie include the following:

  • Sylvester Stallone (as Stanley Kominski)
  • Martin Starr (as Arthur)
  • Jacob Walton (as Sam Cleary)
  • Moises Arias (as Percy Smith)
  • Pilou Asbaek (as Edwin)
  • Dascha Polanco (as Isabelle)
  • Deacon Randle (as The Fireman)
  • Jared Odrick
  • Michael Aaron Milligan
  • Natacha Karam

Avery praised Stallone for his stellar performance in the film:

“We’re going to see Sly do things he hasn’t done in a long time, and in a really inventive way. He’s 73 years old! I’m amazed by how much he actually does. I’m telling you, most guys in their twenties wouldn’t be able to do what Sly does in this movie.”

The movie was written by Bragi Schut, but was based on the Mythos Comics series.

The official synopsis of the film says:

“Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon Walton) suspects that his mysterious neighbor Mr. Joe Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually a superhero hiding in plain sight.

Most believe that Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, died in a fire, but Sam hopes that he is still alive. Sam makes it his mission to find out about his neighbor so that he can help save the city from rising crime.”

When interviewed why he decided to take on the role, Stallone told Yahoo: “I love action films that also have heart. I wanted to be involved with Samaritan because this story has many layers that I think people can relate to. It’s something of a morality tale that is also very exciting to watch. We are thrilled that this will be seen globally on Prime Video where my fans and all audiences can enjoy it together around the world.”

Basically, the premise of the movie is that it is supposed to be 20 years after famous superhero, Samaritan (played by Stallone), vanished without a trace. Tired with his responsibility as a superhero, Samaritan has opted to fake his death and live like a normal individual under the name Stanley Kominski.

Although he has been able to succeed faking his identity for most of the time, his secret seems to be on the verge of unearthed by his neighbor, Sam (played by Jacob Walton), who tries to make him go back to being a superhero.

As of this writing, we don’t know how Sam manages to convince Stanley so this is something to look forward to.
