Although straightforward romances seem to be out of style, with recent The Lost City and soon-to-be-released Thor: Love and Thunder, its obvious that many creators are more than happy to blend the romance genre into more exciting genres, like action. Over the years plenty of movies have appealed to both demographics for action and romance, and why wouldn’t it?
Love and danger are a perfect pairing for intensity and entertaining fights (both romantic and action-based). And, there are a surprising number of options for viewers looking for both, so fans decided on which films balanced their romance and action the best on Ranker.

10 mr. Right (2015)
Anna Kendrick plays Martha, a young woman who thinks she has finally found the “perfect guy” for her. That is until she discovers he’s actually a hitman on the run from his previous crime cartel employers.
This romance action movie is perfect for the on-the-run lovers trope love. The heavy tension with first finding out a hitman’s secret and then the suspense with constantly being chased, making sure they’re one step ahead, is great for a fun, surprisingly light-hearted thrill watch.
9 Spider Man: Far From Home (2019)
Spider-Man: Far From Home is the second installment of this Spider-Man series, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Peter must continue his life like before. But things change when a new mysterious threat appears.
This is clearly the perfect love story for Marvel fans who like the mystical and amazing. There’s plenty of high school drama mixed with heavy action sequences, and although the romance between superhero sequences are light and few, they are worth the payoff in the end.
8 Allied (2016)
allied follows two World War Two operatives, Max and Marianne, played by Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, who fall in love and get married. But when Max gets a call informing him his wife is a spy for the enemy, things start to get rocky.
Focused on a love story amidst the war, fans of the film like its grittiness. But with some spy thriller storylines thrown in, it’s a story that definitely keeps the viewer on their toes from start to finish. Nothing gets boring when there’s love and war involved.
7 The Mask of Zorro (1998)
This classic romance-action film stars Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins. It follows the famous Zorro, who is now released from prison and continues on his quest for vengeance, all while he takes a drunk young thief under his wing.
This is a film about fighting for the love of family and following the heart. It’s a great balance between romance and action, and the action is unique because of the period setting. It’s a break from the regular gun fights seen in modern films, and the sword fight scenes remain iconic to this day.
6 This Means War (2012)
This Means War is another Reese Witherspoon-led rom-com, but this time with a more exciting twist. It follows two CIA operatives who find out they’ve both fallen for the same woman, Lauren Scott (Witherspoon). So a battle begins between the two as they try to win her heart.
This blend between action, romance, and comedy is elevated by its extremely talented cast (Tom Hardy and Chris Pine play the two men competing for Lauren’s affection). This film blends romance and action even more seamlessly, as the thrilling sequences are a fight for love. It’s an easy, light watch for a fun night in.
5 Baby Driver (2017)

The 2006 James Bond movie, Casino Royale, follows James Bond soon after getting his 00 status. So now as 007, he is set on a mission to stop a mobster banker from winning big at a poker game.
As all James Bond movies are, this one is full of tension and suspenseful fight scenes, despite the relatively contained locale and mission. Eva Green as Vesper Lynd has a steamy romance with Mr. Bond, but what separates her from a great deal of classic Bond Girls is her complex and unexpected backstory, as well as a character arc that matters in its own right.
2 mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)
mr. & Mrs. Smith, the iconic flick starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, follows a husband and wife in a marriage on the rocks. That is until they discover they are both assassins, set with a new mission: to kill each other.
This love/hate dynamic provides fans with an intense chemistry between not just a husband and wife, but assassins. Their newfound romance generates a lot of sparks and the action is grand and entertaining. It’s hard to get bored with so much temptation and danger.
